Hi everybody. I´m Donato and this is my first message. I wish to learn a lot about bike suspension and the magnific program Linkage.

(Sorry for my ugly English  )

To begin, I have a doubt about how to consider the point of equilibrium or SAG.
For a regular user, the way to know the sag of the rear suspension is to know the % of the shock stroke, with the help of the scale or marks and the o-ring on the shock. But (I think) on Linkage you always consider the % of the real axle travel. But both values are conditioned by the Leverage Ratio.

For example, a sag=25% of the shock stroke could be a 30% of the rear travel in one bike and a 35% in another bike depending on the LR. Equally, a 25%sag in rear travel, can be a 25% or 30% o another cypher in the stroke shock depending on the LR.

This is very important when you have designed a suspension which works well in a short range around the SAG. Coming back to the examples, think about one suspension system designed to have a good anti-squat with 25% of the rear travel. It´s possible that the final user will set a 25%sag on the shock, with the marks and o-ring on it. It could be a different %sag on the rear axle and the suspension doesn´t work well at this point.

Would it be as easy as notice it in the user's manual? Something like "for a right performance of the suspension set a XX%sag of the shock stroke...". And the "XX" would be equivalent to 25% rear travel.

Which is the right way to consider this fact?

Thanks

Hi Donato,
good question - and thanks for calling the software magnific!

Yes in Linkage sag is measured at rear wheel vertical travel now.
It's kind of a heritage, fixing the shock stroke and so calculating max travel is a later development, first there was setting max travel only in Linkage.
I had some conversations with some engineers and there was no common opinion on where to measure sag - shock or wheel...
I believe it only makes a few mm's of difference, you're right it's more important with short travel bikes.

So, I agree now that it seems more proper to measure sag at the shock stroke. Or maybe show both.
You can expect that it will be changed in the software.
